Competa, Andalusia - Our home
Sarah and I originally found Competa through our friend Greig. Greig had a villa in the campo (countryside) outside the village and due to personal reasons, had the property up for sale. We came to visit the area and went to look at Greig's property and absolutely loved the region immediately. It had everything we desired. Competa is 25 mins drive from the coast yet is isolated in the Sierra De Tejeda mountains. Albeit small, it has 5,000 residents from over 30 countries and has everything you need. Olympic swimming pool, football stadium, shops, bars, restaurants etc and is a typical white washed Spanish village - absolutely beautiful.

We never got the opportunity to buy his property as the timing was not right and he sold it just before we were ready to emigrate. However, we bought a stunning two bedroom villa, just ten minutes walk from the village with two acres of land for very sensible money.

Since being here, we have found the local community to be amazing. With a 50-50 split between Spanish residents and ex pats from over 30 countries, Competa buzzes with a sense of inclusion and caring. There's always events to busy yourself in such as charity rounders, slow football, culinary shows, musical events on top of all the many many Spanish festivals which are colourful and flavoursome. It really is a lovely place to live and settle down. We hope to bring you much more information about our area of Andalusia as well as much more as we travel around and get to see the villages, towns and cities.
