Since Brexit, moving to Spain from the UK has become a little more complicated—but not impossible. If you're dreaming of a slower pace of life, siestas, sunshine, and sangria, the Non-Lucrative Visa (NLV) could be your golden ticket to living in Andalusia legally and peacefully.

Here's everything you need to know to get started.

What Is the Non-Lucrative Visa?

The Non-Lucrative Residence Visa is designed for non-EU citizens (like UK nationals post-Brexit) who wish to live in Spain without working or running a business. It's ideal for:- Early retirees- Digital nomads with passive income- People wanting a sabbatical or lifestyle change- Remote workers not earning from Spain (though this can be a grey area)

Financial Requirements (2025)

To qualify, you need to demonstrate sufficient income or savings to cover your living costs:- Primary applicant: €2,400/month (approx. €28,800/year)- Each dependent: +€600/month (approx. €7,200/year)Acceptable income sources include pensions, rental income, dividends, investments, passive business income, or large savings.

Documents You’ll Need

Requirements vary slightly by consulate, but typically include:- Completed visa application form- Valid UK passport- Medical certificate- Private health insurance with full coverage in Spain- Proof of funds- Police clearance (ACRO certificate)- Passport-sized photos- Visa fee (approx. £500 per applicant)

The Application Process

1. Book an appointment at the Spanish consulate in your region.2. Gather and submit all documentation.3. Attend the appointment in person.4. If approved, receive a 90-day visa to enter Spain.5. Once in Spain, apply for your TIE (residency card) within 30 days.

Once You Arrive in Andalusia

- Apply for your TIE at the local immigration office.- Register on the padrón (town hall census).- Set up local services and utilities.- Enjoy your new Andalusian lifestyle!

Can I Work on the Non-Lucrative Visa?

No, not legally in Spain. You cannot be employed by a Spanish company or run a Spanish business. Many NLV holders work remotely for non-Spanish clients, but this remains a legal grey area.

Is the Non-Lucrative Visa Right for You?

It’s a great fit if:- You’re financially independent- You want to live in Spain long-term- You don’t need to work locallyIt may not be ideal if you plan to work or start a business in Spain soon.

Living the Dream in Andalusia

Discovering Andalusia

From whitewashed villages to warm Mediterranean beaches, Andalusia is a popular choice for NLV holders. Whether you're settling in Málaga, Ronda, Granada, or a sleepy inland town, the non-lucrative visa is your key to starting a new life in the sun.
