If you find yourself in the charming village of Cómpeta in Andalusia, there’s one restaurant you absolutely cannot miss: Cortijo Paco. This local institution has long been a favourite of both residents and visitors, offering a delightful mix of traditional Spanish cuisine, exceptional service, and a setting that simply can't be beaten. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, Cortijo Paco delivers an experience that’s sure to impress.

The Setting

The restaurant itself is located in a traditional Andalusian building, with rustic wooden beams and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The interior is charming and authentic, showcasing the region’s character while providing a comfortable space to enjoy a meal. But what really makes the venue special is its position – perched above the village, Cortijo Paco offers spectacular views across Cómpeta and down to the Mediterranean. It’s the perfect backdrop for a leisurely meal, whether you're dining on the terrace or inside.

The Cuisine

Cortijo Paco excels when it comes to traditional Andalusian dishes, but they’ve also added a touch of modern flair that elevates every meal. As a regular, one dish I always look forward to is the scallops and prawns starter, which comes served in the shell with a rich béchamel and wine sauce. It’s nothing short of exceptional, with perfectly cooked seafood in a velvety sauce that’s rich yet balanced.

Another dish that consistently stands out is the fillet steak. In my opinion, it’s the best you’ll find in the area – tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Paired with one of their fine wines, it’s an unforgettable main course. The waiter recommended a Trus Vinos D finca 2023 to go with my medium/well fillet steak and it paired wonderfully. If you're in the mood for something truly hearty, the slow-cooked lamb is a must-try. Melt-in-your-mouth tender, the flavours are deep and comforting, a perfect dish for those looking to savour a true Andalusian classic.

For dessert, the banana dessert cooked in rum is a standout. The combination of sweet banana and the slight kick of rum creates a mouth-watering treat that’s the perfect way to end your meal on a high note.

Cortijo Paco also offers a range of other dishes that both Sarah, myself and friends had the pleasure of sampling over the last few months. The grilled fish, often locally sourced, is fresh and bursting with flavour. The duck with fruits and brandy sauce a regular crowd pleaser as is the tuna steak with chilli. We are yet to find a dish we do not love, so that speaks volumes to me.

Sister Restaurant: Casa Paco

Not far from Cortijo Paco is its sister restaurant, Casa Paco, located in the main village square. While both restaurants share the same commitment to quality food and service, Casa Paco has a more casual atmosphere and is great for a quick bite or a relaxed drink with friends. It’s an excellent choice if you want to experience the same quality of Cortijo Paco, but in a slightly more laid-back setting. You may think from the outside that this is simply a bar, but venture upstairs and you will find some of the best tapas in the area.

Why Cortijo Paco is Special

It’s the combination of great food, stunning views, and a charming atmosphere that makes Cortijo Paco stand out. It feels like a hidden gem – a place where locals gather, yet it’s also a spot you’ll want to return to every time you’re in the area. The staff is always welcoming, and the attention to detail in both the service and the dishes is remarkable.

If I were to give one minor critique, it would be that the restaurant can get quite busy, especially during peak times. However, this is a testament to its popularity, and it’s always worth the wait for a table.

Final Thoughts

Cortijo Paco in Cómpeta is a standout in the Andalusian dining scene, offering everything you could want in a local restaurant: incredible food, stunning views, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re indulging in their famous seafood, enjoying a tender steak, or finishing off with a delicious dessert, it’s always a meal to remember.

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area and give it a solid 9 out of 10. It’s one of those places you’ll want to return to time and time again – I know we certainly will!
